Found in warm, temperate habitats in South, Central, and North America, the armadillo is an armored mammal that looks right out of the Jurassic period. Armadillo varies in size and color depending on species, with the grey, small nine-banded armadillo being the only species found in North America. Armadillos are covered from head to tail in bony plates that act as armor against predators. Armadillos are solitary creatures with poor eyesight, a strong sense of smell, and sharp claws used for digging and hunting. Don’t forget to say howdy next time you’re on board with Tex!
