The resplendent quetzal are startling emerald jewels of the cloud forest. They are classified as near threatened on the IUCN Red List due to habitat loss and their population is decreasing. The resplendent quetzal is the national bird of Guatemala. It is estimated there are only 50,000 quetzals remaining in the wild. Verde after it’s green body, also they habitat the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, a forest that is always nearly shrouded in clouds and the most famous habitat in Costa Rica for the Quetzal.
