Maria the Bald Eagle

As rulers of the sky, the bald eagle fearlessly rises well above its prey! Having a keen eye for detail, it pays close attention to what lies below. These large birds move throughout the land primarily by soaring—a style of flying where they hold their wings outward and rarely flap—saving considerable energy. They can fly seemingly forever, locking their wings in certain positions as they navigate through strong and stormy winds. This special trait is often viewed as a symbol of strength and courage.

MEANING BEHIND THE NAME

Maria the Bald Eagle is our second A321neo, second GTF-powered aircraft, and second of three special Pratt & Whitney liveries. The plane was named by Pratt & Whitney employees in honor of sustainable aviation pioneer Maria Della Posta, president of Pratt & Whitney Canada. Maria is the first woman to lead a P&W business unit. Her division is on the forefront of technology and innovation for more sustainable aviation. The aircraft marks the second of 144 A320neo family aircraft – 134 purchased and 10 leased – for which Frontier has selected Pratt & Whitney GTF™ engines.
