The Kermode Bear also known as the Spirit Bear can only be found in Canada’s Great Bear Rainforest in British Columbia. The Kermode bear is a rare subspecies of the black bear. Their white color can be attributed to a mutation in a gene that produces melanin. However, they are not considered albino. The Kermode bears hold a prominent place in the oral traditions of the indigenous people of the area. Although they are not endangered, there have been considerable conservation efforts to maintain their population due to the bear’s cultural significance.
