Green Turtles are one of the largest sea turtles and the only herbivore. They are currently endangered due to overharvesting of their eggs, hunting and being caught in fishing gear, and loss of nesting beach sites. Green turtles graze on seagrasses and algae, maintaining the seagrass beds. They can be found in the Gulf of California aka Sea of Cortez, which is home to nearly a third of the world’s marine mammal species and also his namesake.
