Hugh the Manatee

Also called sea cows and found in shallow coastal waters near the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean, manatees are some of the ocean’s gentlest giants. With a lifespan of up to 60 years, manatees are excellent swimmers that can stay submerged for up to 15 minutes but are unable to be on land. Manatees have small but sharp eyes and ears, which are ideal for hearing other manatees' chirps, whistles and squeaks. Next time you’re in Florida, take some time to kayak with these friendly creatures.
