Davis the Mexican Spotted Owl

The Mexican spotted owl, one of the largest owls in North America, is listed as a threatened species by both the U.S. and Mexican governments. The Mexican spotted owl occurs in forested mountains and canyonlands throughout the southwestern U.S. and Mexico. It ranges from Utah, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico and the western portions of Texas south into several states of Mexico. In 1993, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service listed the Mexican spotted owl as threatened under the Endangered Species Act and in later in 2004, the agency designated critical habitat for the owl.
