Check-In Requirements

If you want to be ahead of the game, use online check-in before you even get to the airport. Online check-in for all Frontier flights is available within 60 minutes to 24 hours of your departure time. If you check-in online, simply follow the "Bag Drop" signs to designated lines at the airport where passengers who already checked-in online can check their bags.

If you do not check-in online, you may also check in when you arrive at the airport using one of our 2 convenient options:

  • Self-service check-in kiosks (where available).
  • Ticket counters within every airport terminal.

Our Customer Service representatives will be happy to assist you with any baggage you're checking, to answer any questions you may have, and to provide you with a valid boarding pass.

With increased security measures in place throughout the nation, we recommend all travelers arrive at the airport at least two hours prior to departure time. You and your baggage must be checked in no later than 45 minutes prior to departure for domestic flights and no later than 60 minutes prior to departure for international flights.

Passengers must be at the gate for boarding 10 minutes prior to departure for all Frontier flights, otherwise reservations are subject to cancellation. Frankly, we'd much rather have you sitting at the gate a little longer than have you miss your flight.

Remember that you'll need a valid boarding pass and a photo ID to get through the security check-point to access the departure gate area. You can obtain a boarding pass one of the following ways:

  • Check-in online and print the boarding pass
  • Use curbside check-in at our hub in Denver, as well as in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C. - Reagan National Airport.
  • Use the self-service check-in kiosks (where available)
  • Go to our ticket counter at the airport

Notice of Overbooking of Flights

Frontier flights may be overbooked, and there is a slight chance that a seat will not be available on a flight for which a person has a confirmed reservation. If the flight is overbooked, no one will be denied a seat until airline personnel first ask for volunteers willing to give up their reservation in exchange for a payment of the airline's choosing. If there are not enough volunteers, Frontier will deny boarding to persons in accordance with its particular boarding priorities that are available at all airport ticket counters and boarding locations. Our Customer Service Commitment provides further information on our policies in the event of an overbooked flight.

Active duty military personnel with ID (not including family members or traveling companions) will not be assessed bag fees. Media personnel may check bags and equipment for $25 each.

Checked baggage must not exceed 62 linear inches (length + width + depth) or weigh more than 50 pounds to be within the baggage allowance. There is a $75 fee for bags exceeding this size limitation and a $75 fee for exceeding the weight limitation. These fees are charged separately, and one item can incur multiple fees.

For your security, please keep in mind the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) screens all checked baggage. Unlocked bags can be examined quickly. Locked bags will be opened if necessary, and then resealed.

In addition to checked bags, each passenger may take one piece of carry-on baggage and a personal item, such as a handbag or small tote. The total dimensions of your carry-on bag can't be more than a total of 49 inches (not to exceed 9.5" height + 15.5" width + 24" length) and it can't weigh more than 35 pounds on flights operated by Frontier. It must fit underneath the seat or in an enclosed overhead bin. Visit our pages on Baggage for more detailed information about the do's and don'ts.

Assistive devices, such as canes, walkers and crutches will not count toward the limit on carry-on items.

Baggage fees may vary when traveling on codeshare flights operated by another carrier. Please refer to the operating carrier's website or reservations department for more information. On codeshare flights operated by Great Lakes Airlines, Frontier's checked baggage allowances and fees will apply. However, Great Lakes limits carry-on baggage to one personal item — any other carry-on items will be checked using a valet baggage service as you board and then made available at the arrival gate of your Great Lakes Airlines flight.

Excess Baggage Charges

An excess baggage charge will be assessed for each piece of checked baggage over any allowance based on the Fare Option purchsed for Frontier flights. Excess baggage is subject to oversized and overweight charges for each maximum exceeded per size and weight limits discussed above. Fees may apply to special items such as antlers, dry ice, etc. Refer to the Special Items Baggage Chart online for details. Passengers connecting to other airlines from Frontier may check baggage if an agreement between carriers exists — click here for a list of all airlines with whom Frontier has a Baggage Agreement. Baggage fees are based on one-way travel regardless of the itinerary.

Flight and Ticket Cancellation

All tickets purchased on FlyFrontier.com may be cancelled for any reason up to 24 hours after the time of purchase. You can request a refund for any reason within 24 hours of purchase at the My Flights section on FlyFrontier.com or through Frontier Reservations at 800-432-1FLY (1359).

If it has been more than 24 hours since you purchased your ticket, you may cancel your ticket at the My Flights section on FlyFrontier.com or through Frontier Reservations at 800-432-1FLY (1359).  Rules for cancelling a ticket more than 24 hours after purchase depend upon the Fare Option purchased:

  • Classic Plus tickets are fully refundable and may be cancelled without a penalty.
  • Classic tickets will retain their value for one year from the date of purchase, and the value of your ticket may be applied toward the purchase of a future ticket without any fee.
  • Economy tickets will retain their value for one year from the date of purchase, and the value of your ticket may be applied toward the purchase of a future ticket subject to a $50 change fee.
  • Basic tickets will retain their value for one year from the date of purchase, and the value of your ticket may be applied toward the purchase of a future ticket subject to a $100 change fee.

Please note that Classic, Economy, and Basic tickets must be cancelled prior to the departure of a flight in order to retain their value. Failure to show for any flight or cancel a ticket prior to any ticketed flight departure will forfeit the remaining value of the ticket.

Flight and Ticket Itinerary Changes

If you are changing your itinerary prior to the day of travel (date changes or city changes), you would pay the difference between the fare already paid and the new fare based on the new itinerary, as well as a change fee that varies based on the Fare Option of the ticket already purchased. The fees to change your ticket prior to the day of travel are as follows:

Basic: $100
Economy: $50
Classic: Free
Classic Plus: Free
EarlyReturns® Summit level members: Free

For changes to tickets on the day of travel, Frontier offers two options — standby travel and same day confirmed alternate flight changes.

Frontier offers free standby to customers traveling on a Classic or Classic Plus ticket, as well as to Ascent and Summit level members of EarlyReturns®. Economy tickets are not eligible for standby travel. If you are eligible for standby travel, you may request to fly standby on another flight on your day of travel at the airport ticket counter or gate.

If you wish to change to an earlier or later flight on your day of travel, we can confirm a seat for you for a flat fee as long as there are seats available. You may confirm a seat on another flight at the Airport Ticket Counter or by calling Frontier Reservations at 800-432-1FLY (1359). The fee for same day confirmed alternate flight changes varies based on the Fare Option purchased as follows:

Basic: $100
Economy: $50
Classic: $25
Classic Plus: Free
EarlyReturns® Summit level members: Free

Standby travel on eligible tickets must follow the original ticketed itinerary, meaning if you were booked on a nonstop flight you cannot add a connection to the itinerary or vice versa. Same day confirmed alternate flight changes allow you to change the itinerary from a nonstop to a connection itinerary or vice-versa.

Same day confirmed alternate flight changes and standby travel on eligible tickets apply to alternate flights between your ticketed origin and destination cities. However, the following groups of airports will be considered the same city for same day confirmed and standby purposes. This means that if you are booked to fly to/from an airport in each group, you may request a same day confirmed alternate flight change or standby travel (if eligible) to fly to/from another airport in the group if there is a seat available (for the applicable fee listed above).

  1. Chicago-Midway Airport (MDW), Chicago-O'Hare Airport (ORD), & Rockford (RFD), IL
  2. Los Angeles (LAX) & Orange County/Santa Ana (SNA), CA
  3. Madison (MSN), WI & Rockford (RFD), IL
  4. Orlando (MCO) & Tampa (TPA), FL
  5. Philadelphia (PHL), PA & Trenton/Princeton (TTN), NJ & Wilmington (ILG), DE

When a ticket is exchanged prior to the day of travel, you will be able to pay the applicable change fee on your existing  ticket and pay the applicable fare difference to select any of our Fare Options for the new itinerary.  Please be advised that if you exchange a nonrefundable Basic, Economy, or Classic ticket and apply the value toward a refundable Classic Plus fare, the original ticket amount will remain nonrefundable if the new Classic Plus ticket is later cancelled or exchanged.

Name Changes

If you need to change the name on your ticket prior to travel, but will keep the same itinerary, you may do so by paying any difference between the fare already paid and the current fare selling for the same itinerary, as well as a name change fee. The name change fee varies based on Fare Option of the ticket already purchsed. The fees to change the name on your ticket are as follows:

Basic: $100
Economy: $50
Classic: $50
Classic Plus: Free
EarlyReturns® Summit level members: Free

Please note that if you must make an itinerary change (date changes or city changes) in addition to the name change, both the name change fee and the itinerary change fee described above will apply.

Notice of Baggage Liability Limit

Liability for loss, delay or damage to checked baggage is limited as follows.

For travel wholly between U.S. points, liability shall not exceed $3,300 US dollars per ticketed passenger. Actual value for reimbursement of lost or damaged property will be determined by the documented original purchase price less any applicable depreciation.

Ticket Validity

All tickets are valid one year from the date of issue. Please note that Classic, Economy, and Basic tickets must be cancelled prior to the departure of a flight in order to retain their value. Failure to show for any flight or cancel a ticket prior to any ticketed flight departure will forfeit the remaining value of the ticket.

To use the value of a retained ticket credit towards a new reservation, please call our Reservations Department at 800-432-1FLY (1359). Please provide your original reservation code or ticket number. We cannot exchange one ticket for multiple tickets.
